Hovde, Menomonie Optimists of the month

THEO HOVDE
The Menomonie Optimist Club has recognized outstanding young people from Dunn County’s four high schools for over 40 years. At their September meeting, Optimists honored Theodore Hovde of Colfax High School, as the September Youth of the Month.
Theodore Hovde is the son of Trevor and Nancy Hovde, and has been active academically, athletically and in his community. Theo is president of his class, president of the National Honor Society, captain of the football and track teams. He has already completed over 30 college credits while maintaining a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Theo is active in Colfax High School musical groups and regularly sings the national anthem at school events. He volunteers with the Summer Saunters program, a youth program for hiking on the Ice Age Trail. Theo volunteers at his church, helping with children’s activities and ushering. Serving his community, Theo and his brother visit the Colfax Nursing Home to perform music for residents, and has given special time and attention to his brother with special needs. Theo is still assessing his college attendance plans and is working to choose a major area of study.
Menomonie Optimists, in addition to the Youth of the Month program, also provide a dictionary to every third grade student in Dunn County each year, have worked with the Wisconsin DNR in the development of the oak savanna at Hoffman Hills State Recreation Area, and sponsor the Menomin Meander, a family-friendly and free bike ride each summer.
