Mounder thinclads compete in Bloomer, Stanley-Boyd
It was a busy week for the Elk Mound track and field squads as they competed in three meets in a four-day span.
Besides partaking in the Colfax Invitational last Thursday (see separate story), the Mounders boys’ and girls’ teams kicked off the week with a meet in Bloomer and ended it competing in Stanley-Boyd on Friday.
Both meets afforded Elk Mound the chance to measure themselves against several schools that they will face in the WIAA Division 2 track and field tournament that will get underway with regional competition in Colfax Monday, May 21.
The Elk Mound boys finished third at the May 1 meet in Bloomer with 104 points. The girls finished sixth with 54 points. Host Bloomer finished on top in both the boys’ and girls’ standings at the 11-team invitational.
The teams standings were identical following last Friday’s Mid-Season Invite held on Stanley-Boyd’s Henke Track at Orioles Park. The Mounder boys tallied 122 points to land in third place at the 7-team invite on May 4 with the Lady Mounders taking sixth after scoring 62 points. Again, the home squads, Stanley-Boyd’s boys and girls, took the team titles with scores of 179 for the boys and 142 for the girls.
