Hilltoppers host outdoor meet

GLENWOOD CITY – It was a beautiful for a track meet on Monday, April 23rd.  You really couldn’t have asked for a better day except for the ground to have been dried out. As a result of the damp ground the Toppers played host to a running only meet.  Spring Valley, Boyceville and Elmwood/Plum City were the challengers.

With just running events the Hilltoppers were able to come out on top in both the boys and girls contests while the Boyceville boys with their strength in distance running captured second place.   For the Boyceville girls it was a fourth place finish without their field events.

For the Glenwood boys their strength lies in their speed. Besides taking first place in both the 4x100m relay and the 4x200m relay, they placed in the top six spots in the 100m dash. The 100m dash was actually a 98m dash as they started from the wrong line. Jake Kopacz was the first Topper to cross the finish line with a time of 11.77. Ethan Kahler also had a first place finish for the boys in the 300m hurdles with a time of 45.87.

The Boyceville boys were led by the Corr brothers in the distance races as Rian took first in the 800m with a time of 2:26.40 while younger brother Nathan came in first in both the 1600m and the 3200m. Ryker Ferg came in fourth for the Bulldogs in the 1600m and second in the 3200m.

The Glenwood Girls also did well in the sprints taking first place in the 4x100m relay with the team of Bella Rassbach, Bethany Ullom, Marie Schmidt and Marie Garcia and placing in second through seventh place in the 200m dash.

Lady Bulldog, Emily Voelker had two second place finishes. In the 400m with a time of 1:04.96 and the 800m with a time of 2:46.02. “Emily Voelker ran her best 400M last night placing second.  I was very impressed with how strong she looked throughout the race.  She repeated that performance in the 4x400M being back quite a ways she brought us within a second of winning.” Commented head Bulldog Coach, Corey Day. He goes on to say ” I was very happy with the effort on the track.  It gives a good look at what some of our athletes are capable of for the conference and the tournament series.”
