Colfax’ Ethin Kiekhafer named NAIA National Scholar Athlete
KANSAS CITY, MO — Colfax native Ethin Kiekhafer was one of three Viterbo University V-Hawks to recently be named a Daktronics-National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division II scholar-athlete.
In order to be nominated for the award, each student-athlete must have maintained a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved junior academic status.
Kiekhafer, a senior at the LaCrosse, WI-based university, was a member of the Viterbo men’s basketball team that finished the 2017-18 season with an overall record of 16-14 and 7-9 in the North Star Athletic Association.
Unfortunately, Kiekhafer never got the opportunity to hit the hardwood for his senior season with the V-Hawks men’s hoops team.
According to his mother Jodi Kiekhafer, in an email response to a Messenger inquiry she noted that Ethin had torn his ankle in just the third practice of the year and required season ending surgery. She stated that Ethin did remain with the team through this past season and served in a coaching role.
His mother also noted that Kiekhafer will graduate this coming May and will be attending Optometry college at the Michigan College of Optometry.
Joining Kiekhafer as NAIA Division II scholor-athletes for the V-Hawks were Payton Curry (a junior from Chandler, AZ) and Heidi Huebner (senior from Hortonville, WI), who both were members of the women’s basketball team.
