ELK MOUND — Since suffering its only loss of the season, a 35-38 non-conference setback at Baldwin-Woodville back on January 6, the Elk Mound girls’ basketball squad has embarked on an impressive and dominate 12-game win streak that has seen it win by an average margin of just over 39 points per game.
That trend continued at home last week with the Lady Mounders winning their final two contests of the regular season in decisive fashion.
Welcoming potential regional playoff opponent Bloomer last Monday, February 17 for a non-conference clash, the Mounder girls, ranked sixth in the latest Division 3 state coaches poll, crushed the Lady Blackhawks (13-11 and 6-6 in the Cloverbelt West) 82-45.
Then three days later, on Thursday, February 20, Elk Mound capped the regular and Dunn-St. Croix seasons with a 66 to 18 home throttling of the Mondovi Buffaloes to finish a perfect 14-0 in league play for a third straight year.
Elk Mound enters this week’s WIAA Division 3 regional tournament with a 22-1 record, the number one seed and an opening-round bye. The Mounders will host the winner of Viroqua (#9) versus Stanley-Boyd (#8) contest this Friday, February 28 at 7 p.m. with the victor moving on to the regional championship game the following night.
Bloomer
Senior Ellie Schiszik and junior Allie Robel had the hot offensive hands when Elk Mound hosted Bloomer in a non-conference contest on the Mounders’ hardwood last Monday, February 17.
Schiszik went off for a season-high 29 points which included six of Elk Mound’s ten three-point hoops while Robel finished with 20 points highlighted by an 8-for-8 effort at the charity stripe to lead the Mounders to an 82-45 win over the Blackhawks. Schiszik also tallied six rebounds, four assists and four steals. Robel came up with a dozen steals to top the team and corralled four boards and finished with three assists.
“We came out with great energy, and shot the ball well,” said Mounders’ head coach Jordan Kongshaug.
“Bloomer is very good offensively, and I thought we did a good job of limiting their shots and scores,” he added.
Elk Mound went into the locker room at halftime with a commanding 46-17 lead. Bloomer was able to score 28 points in the second half, but Elk Mound added another 36 to its tally for a 39-point margin of victory against a squad it could meet up with in the regional championship this Saturday.
The Mounders held a 26-20 edge in rebounds and caused the Blackhawks to turn the ball over 31 times in the contest. Elk Mound also made 12 of its 15 free throws to Bloomer’s 5-for-9 performance. Bloomer also finished with six threes.
Senior Allie Roder contributed 13 points, seven steals, six assists and four rebounds. Hailey Meyer added four points and six rebounds, Teagan Mayer and Claire Roff netted three points each and Loftyn Awe finished with a pair of free throws.
Addyson Zwiefelhofer led Bloomer with 13 points and eight rebounds, Aliya Hartman added eight, Kennady Prill and Brooke Petska seven each and Ciarrra Hartman finished with six points.

Mondovi
Senior Ellie Schiszik and junior Belle Kongshaug both canned a trio of three pointers while the Allies – Allie Robel and Allie Roder – each added four baskets and a free throw to account for 36 (nine points each) of Elk Mound’s 42 first-half points against Mondovi in last Thursday’s regular-season finale.
That offensive display coupled with its smothering defensive pressure put Elk Mound in the proverbial “driver’s seat” with a 42-10 halftime advantage.
The Mounders, who celebrated senior night at the February 20 contest, tacked on another 24 points in the latter half and held the Buffaloes to just eight more points en route to the 66-18 victory and season sweep .
“It was a great way to cap off our regular season,” said Coach Kongshaug.
Kongshaug hit two more triples in the second half and made two of her three foul shots to finish as the team’s and game’s high scorer with 17 points.
Three other Mounders also finished in double figures for the contest.
Allie Roder scored 13 points along with four rebounds and three steals and had a trio of assists, Ellie Schiszik added 12 points, and Allie Roder finished with 11 points and team highs in both rebounds and assists with seven and six, respectively. Hailey Meyer contributed eight points via a pair of deuces and a 4-for-4 effort at the free throw line.
Elk Mound was 10-for-18 at the line and caused 19 Mondovi turnovers.
Hannah Bauer and Amber Lund both finished with six points to lead the Buffaloes who made a pair of threes and finished 6-for-11 from the free throw line.
“We celebrated Senior Night, and we appreciate the leadership of Teagan Mayer, Hailey Meyer, Allie Roder, Claire Roff, Jaidynn Sarauer, and Ellie Schiszik. It is an awesome group of kids!” concluded Kongshaug.
