McDonell/Elk Mound wrestlers drop duals to Stanley-Boyd and Spencer/Columbus

The McDonell Central Catholic/Elk Mound wrestling cooperative lost both of its duals at a Cloverbelt Triangular hosted by Stanley-Boyd last Thursday, January 23.
McDonell/Elk Mound then participated in the Shell Lake Challenge two days later where it finished 16th out of 17 schools with a tally of 21.5 points.
The McDonell/Elk Mound squad will wrestle in its final Cloverbelt triangular this Thursday, January 30 at Cadott High School where it will dual the host Hornets and Neillsville/Greenwood/Loyal. The team will then participate in a pair of Menomonie tournaments on Friday and Saturday, January 31 and February 1.
Spencer High School will be the site of this year’s Cloverbelt Conference tournament which is set for Saturday, February 8. The WIAA tournament series begins the following Saturday, February 15, with the super regional which will be held at Baldwin-Woodville High School.
Cloverbelt Triangular
McDonell/Elk Mound fell to 1-5 in Cloverbelt duals as it lost both contests in a conference triangular hosted at Stanley-Boyd last Thursday, January 23.
Against the host Stanley-Boyd Orioles, McDonell/Elk Mound lost 69-12 after surrendering eight forfeits, three pin falls and a decision.
The locals only two wins came at 106 and 113 pounds. McKenzie Simonson was awarded a forfeit at 106 pounds and Allison Cronk pinned Koraline Pennala at 113.
Elk Mound wrestlers Haiden Hay (138) lost via a 17-11 decision and Anthony Hay (150) was pinned.
Spencer/Columbus Catholic defeated McDonell/Elk Mound, 60 to 11. No individual results were available at press time.
Shell Lake Challenge
Just four wrestlers competed in last Saturday’s Shell Lake Challenge for McDonell/Elk Mound who finished in 16th place with 21.5 points.
Two of those grapplers were from Elk Mound.
Haiden Hay finished 13th at 138 pounds while Anthony Hay was 16th at 144 pounds.
Spring Valley/Elmwood won the meet with a score of 268.5.
