ELK MOUND — The Colfax girls traveled to Elk Mound Friday, December 13 with hopes of earning a win and knock the Mounders out of the top of the Dunn-St. Croix Conference.
After the Vikings led early in the game, the Mounders turned things around in a hurry to finish with a 46-24 win. Elk Mound is now 7-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play while Colfax is 3-3 and 2-1 in the conference.
The Vikings took a 10-3 lead with help from seven points by Jordyn Bowe, prompting Mounder head coach Jordan Kongshaug to call a time out to get his team on the right track. They seemed to get the message as they went on a long scoring run with points coming from Hailey Meyer, Allie Roder, and Belle Kongshaug for an 18-10 lead.
Sierra Shipman finally broke the string for the Vikings but those would be the final points of the half for Colfax as the Mounders led 23-14 at the break.

The Mounder defense put the clamps down on the Vikings, forcing them into several turnovers early in the second half, and when they did get shot off it wouldn’t hit the basket. Meanwhile, Elk Mound upped their lead to 29-14 on a put back by Meyer, a bucket off another offensive rebound from Allie Robel and Ellie Schiszik’s first deuce of the game before Bowe dropped in a pair of free throws for Colfax and it was 29-16.

Robel scored from the paint but Kaysen Goodell countered it and Brynn Sikora added a bucket for the Vikings, cutting the Mounder lead to 32-20 with around nine minutes left in the second half.
The Vikings committed their seventh team foul shortly after, sending Robel to the line where she dropped in two free shots. Kongshaug followed with another triple, Meyer scored from close range and a Schiszik free throw doubled the Mounder lead at 40-20.
Bowe’s two free throws and Shipman’s deuce were the final points for Colfax while the Mounders added points from Meyer in the paint and two freebies by Roder along with her final bucket.

Roder led the Mounders with 15 points which included two triples and 3-of-4 free throws. Meyer added 12 points, going 6-for- 8 from the field with five rebounds, Robel scored nine points and grabbed six boards and Schiszik, the Mounders second leading scorer with an 11-point average, was held to just three points but snared eight rebounds.
Bowe was the top scorer for Colfax with 11 points with one trey and 4-of-4 at the charity stripe while Shipman added eight points. Goodell had been averaging 13 points a game but was held to three in the contest.
Both squads will conclude their pre-holiday schedules with a conference game this Thursday, December 19. Elk Mound will travel to Spring Valley while Colfax hosts Elmwood-Plum City.
