Mounders cage Durand-Arkansaw Panthers in Cloverbelt football game

ELK MOUND — The senior duo of running back Parker Dutzle and quarterback Logan Jerome led the Mounders’ football team to a Cloverbelt win at home last Friday, September 20.
Jerome completed nine of his dozen pass attempts for 239 yards and four touchdowns while Dutzle rushed 22 times for 154 yards to help lift Elk Mound to a convincing 32-8 win over the visiting Durand-Arkansaw Panthers (1-2, 1-4).
Elk Mound, which improved to 2-1 in league play and 4-2 overall, finished the contest with 431 yards of total offense. The Mounders led 24-0 at halftime.
The contest’s first points came late in the first quarter when Jerome connected with Rownan Soul-Stewart on a nine-yard pass for the first of Jerome’s four touchdown passes. Jerome then found Kamron Diermeier open on the two-point conversion pass to put the Mounders ahead 8-0 with 2:04 left in the opening stanza.
Jerome and Diermeier would reprise that connection at the 9:52 mark of the second quarter for a thrilling 93-yard pass, catch and run for Elk Mound’s second touchdown of the evening. Parker Rhude ran the two-point try over the goal line to up the Mounder advantage to 16-0.
With 43 seconds remaining in the first half, Jerome would secure his third passing score on a nine-yard toss to end Teegan Wright. Rhude scored two points on the successful conversion run and Elk Mound entered the intermission on top 24-0.
The Panthers finally erased their goose egg when quarterback Ethan Mack connected with receiver Jaxson Weiss on a 26-yard scoring strike at the 5:02 mark of the third quarter. Brett Breidung then completed the conversion pass to tight end Gavin Jahnke for two points which cut the Mounder lead to 24-8.
As it turned out, that was the Panthers only score of the game.
Elk Mound and Logan Jerome, however, had one more score in store.
Less than two minutes after the Durand-Arkansaw TD, Jerome and Diermeier hooked up for their second long-distance touchdown pass of the game. This one covered 90 yards with 3:09 left in the third. Rhude made good on his third consecutive two-point conversion run to put the Mounders back in front by 24 points, 32-8.
And that is how the contest ended as neither team punctuated the end zone in the final stanza.
Diermeier finished with 186 yards receiving on just three catches with two going for 90-plus yard scores. Rownan Soul-Stewart had four catches for 40 yards and a score while Teegan Wright’s lone grab of nine yards also went for six.
Dutzle collected 154 of Elk Mound’s 192 rushing yards. Rhude added 30 yards on nine carries and Jerome tallied a dozen yards on four attempts.
Elk Mound will be in Fall Creek this Friday, September 27 to continue Cloverbelt Conference play.
