The Hilltoppers volleyball team won just one of the four matches it played in this past week.
In its first official home match of the regular season, Glenwood City lost 3-1 to Eleva-Strum last Tuesday, September 10.
Two days later, the Toppers trekked east to Elk Mound High School to partake in a quad meet where they finished 1-2.
Glenwood City, 2-7, has just one match this week – this Thursday’s Dunn-St. Croix Conference opener in Mondovi. Next Tuesday, September 24, Durand-Arkansaw will play on the Hilltoppers’ court.
Eleva-Strum
The Cardinals of Eleva-Strum flew into Glenwood City September 10 and carried away a 3-1 win in the non-conference match against the host Hilltoppers.
Unfortunately, no scores or statistics were provided to the Tribune Press Reporter or posted online.
Elk Mound Quad
Glenwood City finished 1-2 in the Elk Mound quadrangular meet held Thursday, September 12.

Glenwood City’s second match win of the young season came in the first round of competition where it defeated Ellsworth two sets to one. The Hilltoppers prevailed 25-22 in the opening set. The Panthers came back to win set two by a 25-15 score. Glenwood City then nipped Ellsworth 15-13 in the third set to take the victory.
In the next round, Glenwood City lost a close first set to Somerset 26-24. That seemed to take the momentum out of the Toppers’ sails as they lost the second set and match to the Spartans by a score of 25-12.
Conference foe and host Elk Mound quickly dispatched Glenwood City in the final round of action. The Mounders swept the match 25-12 and 25-15.
Elk Mound won the quad with a 3-0 mark while Glenwood City, Ellsworth and Somerset all finished with 1-2 records.
