Elk Mound volleyball partakes in Barron triangular, annual Menomonie Sprawl

It was a busy first week of action for the Elk Mound volleyball team as they played nine matches in total in a pair of events.
The Mounder netters opened the new season at the Barron triangular Tuesday, August 27 and then capped the week playing Friday and Saturday, August 30 and 31 in the annual Menomonie Sprawl held at UW-Stout.
The Mounders dropped both matches in Barron and tallied a 4-3 mark in the Sprawl to start the year with a 4-5 mark.
Elk Mound will stay busy following the Labor Day holiday. The Mounders hosted a quad meet yesterday, September 3, that featured Cumberland, Onalaska Luther and St. Croix Central. They will travel to Cadott on Thursday and to Stanley-Boyd next Tuesday, September 10.
Barron Triangular
In its first official action of the 2024 campaign, Elk Mound played three tight sets against conference foe Durand-Arkansaw at the Barron Triangular. The Panthers won sets one and three, 25-23 and 25-20, to take the win, The Mounders were a 25-20 winner in the second set.
Against the Golden Bears, the Mounders were routed in two straight sets by the host. Barron won both games by scores of 25-14 and 25-16.
Menomonie Sprawl
Elk Mound had a great first-day of action in the 2024 Menomonie Sprawl which featured 40 schools in eight different pools and was hosted by UW-Stout.
The Mounders finished a perfect 4-0 to win its five-team pool on Friday, August 30. Elk Mound defeated Somerset 25-23 and 25-22, Edgar 14-25, 25-15 and 15-13, Prairie Farm 25-12 and 25-19 and Superior 22-25, 25-23 and 17-15.
The top two teams in each of the eight pools advanced to play Saturday’s championship bracket. In the championship round of 16, Elk Mound lost to Chippewa Falls and then fell to Clear Lake and Lakeland in the 9th-place bracket to finish in a tie for 15th place with Prairie Farm.
