Elk Mound girls finish third, boys take fourth in D2 track and field regional

BLOOMER — The Elk Mound girls’ ran, jumped and threw their way to a third-place showing at the WIAA Division 2 track and field regional meet held in Bloomer on Monday, May 20.
The Lady Mounders tallied 99 points to finish a half point ahead of Stanley-Boyd, but just four points out of second which was taken by Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau (GET) with a score of 103. The host Blackhawks ran away with the championship after scoring 175.5 points.
Only 11 points separated the top four finishers in the boys’ title race. Stanley-Boyd prevailed with 117 points, GET was second with 113.50, Arcadia came in third with 108 and Elk Mound scored 106 points to cop fourth.
With the top four place finishers in each event advancing (and first eight scoring team points), the Mounder girls sent five individuals in nine events and a relay to the sectional meet in Colby last Thursday, May 23 while the boys’ had six competitors in nine events and three of its four relays qualify.
Senior Lydia Levra led the girls’ quest as she placed, pointed and advanced in three events. Levra won the 100 meter dash in :13.09 and took silver medals in the 200 and 400 meters with respective times of :26.87 and :59.54.
Allie Robel earned a pair of sectional berths. The sophomore medaled in both hurdling events, taking first in the 100m highs with a time of :16.49 and was third in the 300m lows in :48.60.
Freshman Lauren Gabert also claimed a pair of sectional berths. She went 16’ 9.5” in the long jump which was good for second and took third in the high jump after clearing 4’ 6”.
Senior Carly Mohr and junior Savannah Nechanicky advanced in one event each with fourth-place finishes – Mohr in the long jump (16’ 1.75”) and Nechanicky in the 100 meters (:13.77). Mohr just missed qualifying in the 100 meter high hurdles where she finished fifth.
The girls’ 4x100m relay took second.
For the boys, senior Grandt Mueller hauled in a pair of gold medals and a bronze to advance to Colby in three events. Mueller won the triple jump with a best effort of 41’ 1.25”, beating the second-place finisher by nearly two feet, and took the top spot in the high jump by clearing the bar at 6’ 2”. He went 20’ 10.25” in the long jump to take third.
Speedster Keinin Miller struck silver in the 100 and 200 meter dashes for a pair of sectional berths. The junior ran a :11.19 in the 100 and finished with a :22.49 in the 200.
Tyler Gagner, a senior, copped a first in the 300m intermediate hurdles with a run of :41.05.
Also garnering a spot in the sectional meet were junior shot putter Landon KasaKaitas who heaved the steal sphere 46’ 0.5” to place third, junior Brooks Burcaw took fourth in the pole vault with a jump of ten feet and sophomore Rownan Soul-Stewart also grabbed a fourth-place finish with a leap of 38’ 2” in the triple jump.
Three of the boys’ four relay teams advanced with the 4×100 crew taking first, the 4×200 squad came in third and the 4×400 members were fourth.
