SPRING VALLEY — Mother Nature continued wreck havoc on the spring sports schedule last week as Thursday’s day-long rain shower postponed a conference meet at Whitetail. That left the Glenwood City golf team with one lone competition – a Dunn-St. Croix Conference match in Spring Valley.
The Hilltoppers finished third in the Tuesday, April 30, nine-hole conference golf meet held at the Spring Valley Golf Course.
Glenwood City tallied 177 strokes to finish behind both Durand-Arkansaw, who copped first with a score of 166 and Colfax, a close runner-up with stroke tally of 168. Spring Valley finished with a 200 on its home course to place fourth and Mondovi closed out the team standings in fifth with a tally of 206.
Sophomore Landon Obermueller had the top finish for the Hilltoppers shooting a 42 to finish tied for fourth place on the individual leader board. Juniors Esdyn Swenby and Charles Lamb and senior Ben Wittmer finished 10th, 11th and 12th with respective scores of 44, 45 and 46. Senior Jared Hager completed the varsity scoring with a 57.
Glenwood City finished second in the junior varsity competition with a tally of 209. Durand-Arkansaw again won that competition with a score of 201. Senior Brett Peterson carded a 48 to led the junior varsity squad. Cole Wakeling hit for a 51, William Obermueller finished with a 53, Evelyn Radintz had a 57 and Kaylin Brandt signed off on a 59.
The team will compete in the final nine-hole conference meet at Whitetail on Thursday. The following day, Glenwood City will take part in an invitational at Voyager Village. The 18-hole Dunn-St. Croix Conference tournament is scheduled for next Monday, May 13 at Glen Hills Golf Course.
