Prior to competing in Boyceville last Thursday – site of this year’s Dunn-St. Croix Conference championships in just a few short weeks, the Elk Mound track and field teams took part in an invitational at Baldwin-Woodville High School on Tuesday, April 23.
The Mounders boys finished with 66 points to place sixth in the 11-school meet that featured participants from the Middle Border, Lakeland, Heart ‘O North and Dunn-St. Croix Conferences. The Elk Mound girls tallied 50 points to take home an eighth-place finish.
Altoona won the boys’ team title with 120 points while St. Croix Central was the top girls’ squad with 108 points, a half point ahead of runner-up Prescott.
Senior Grandt Mueller scored 32 points by himself, nearly half of his team’s tally, with a first, two seconds and a third in the invitational. Mueller won the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, was the runner-up in the high jump with a best of 6 feet and the 110 meter high hurdles following a time of :16.45 and copped a bronze finish in the triple jump after sailing 40 feet and 4 inches.
