The Chippewa Falls McDonell/Elk Mound wrestling cooperative ended its regular season with a flurry of duals.
Wrestling in seven duals in just over a 24-hour span, McDonell/Elk Mound finished 1-6.
At a Cloverbelt Conference quad held at Stanly-Boyd High School Thursday, January 25, McDonell/Elk Mound finished 1-2 in its competitions. The local cooperative downed Thorp/Owen-Withee 48-6, but lost to Abbotsford/Colby 48-30 and the host Stanley-Boyd Orioles 55-12.
No individual results from the quad were reported.
The very next afternoon, January 26, McDonell/Elk Mound was at Menomonie High School to partake in the annual Whitetail Shootout. The squad finished last in the 12-team, dual-style tournament after losing all four of its competitions.
A strong Glenwood City team racked up a combined total of 14 pins and forfeits to blank McDonell/Elk Mound 84-0 in the tournament opener. In its final round of pool competition, McDonell/Elk Mound lost 65-12 to Osceola.
In a pair of crossover duals, McDonell lost bouts against another pair of Dunn-St. Croix schools as it was beaten by both Mondovi (54-18) and Spring Valley/Elmwood (39-12).
Elk Mound wrestlers finished the Whitetail Shootout with a combined 1-11 record. Brody Mathison finished with a 1-3 mark at 190 pounds while Luca Burcaw and Ford Hay were both 0-4 at 132 and 138/144 pounds, respectively.
McDonell/Elk Mound will compete in the 2024 Cloverbelt Conference tournament at Neillsville High School this Saturday. The following Saturday, February 10, the team opens the WIAA Division 2 tournament series at the super regional in Medford.
