GLENWOOD CITY — The Topper girls’ basketball team not only found it difficult to score when it hosted Mondovi last Thursday, December 14 in a Dunn-St. Croix matchup but just getting the basketball over the time line was a challenge for Glenwood City, especially in the first half.
Mondovi used an aggressive full-court pressure to force Glenwood City into several turnovers, many of which resulted in easy points for the Buffaloes.
In fact, Mondovi jumped out to a 12-0 lead less than two minutes into the game before Glenwood City was able to score on consecutive possesions with baskets by Jenna McCarthy and Tori Ohman.
Another big Lady Buffs scoring run would give the visitors a 42-8 halftime lead.
Things didn’t improve a whole lot for the host Hilltoppers in the second half, much of which was played under a running clock, as they were again outpointed 31 to 12 as Mondovi left town with the 73-20 victory.
Ohman led the Hilltoppers with five points while Opal Voeltz and Izzy Davis added four each in the loss. Emma Bliese, Anaka Eliason and McCarthy also finished with a bucket.
Mondovi had four players finish in double figures led by its top scorer, Ava Gray, who tallied a game high 25 points. Maddy Marten added 13, Addyson Gray chipped in for 11 and Amber Lund finished with ten.
Glenwood City played in Durand Tuesday and goes to Augusta Thursday for a non-conference game. Following the Christmas break, the Lady Toppers play in Bruce on December 28.
