Elk Mound volleyballers split final D-SC matches

The Elk Mound volleyball team finished off its regular season by splitting a pair of Dunn-St. Croix Conference matches last week.
Hosting one-win Glenwood City Tuesday, October 10 in the annual “Dig Pink” contest, the Lady Mounders swept the Hilltoppers 25-12, 26-24 and 25-10. Two days later, Elk Mound closed out the regular and conference season in Mondovi where they were they suffered their second D-SC loss of the year three sets to one (no set scores were available for that match).
There were no team or individual statistics posted online or provided to the Messenger for either of last week’s conference matches.
The split left the Mounders with a 12-20 overall record and 5-2 in conference play, tying them with Colfax for second place. Spring Valley was the conference champion with a 7-0 record.
Elk Mound began WIAA regional play as a number six seed in the Division 3 Barron sectional and hosted the Stanley-Boyd Orioles, a number 11 seed, Tuesday night, October 17. The Mounders defeated the Orioles 3-2 in a tight contest hosted in Elk Mound back on September 5. The winner of that match will face the victor of the Cadott (#3) versus Augusta (#14) match in a Thursday night, October 19 regional semifinal matchup with the highest remaining seed hosting the match. Regional finals will be held Saturday, October 21.
