Mounders whitewash Wolves, ten-run S-B Orioles for regional opening win

ELK MOUND — After losing three of four in the middle of this month, the Elk Mound baseball team has found its winning ways once more as it ran its winning streak to four games with a pair of lopsided home wins last week including a victory to open the playoffs.
The Mounders closed out their regular-season and Dunn-St. Croix Conference campaigns at Village Park Monday, May 22 with a 22-0 whitewashing of the Elmwood-Plum City Wolves. The win gave Elk Mound the season sweep over Elmwood-Plum City and a 12-2 finish in the final conference baseball standings, good for second place.
Three days later, the fifth-seeded Mounders opened the 2023 WIAA baseball playoffs at home against the 12th-seeded Orioles of Stanley-Boyd. Despite securing just seven hits and committing a pair of errors in the Division 3 regional quarterfinal contest, Elk Mound defeated Stanley-Boyd 12-1 in five innings as Lucas Johnson and Victor Noller combined for a no-hitter as the Mounders improved to 15-6 on the season.
Elk Mound traveled to fourth-seed Stratford Tuesday for a regional semifinal with the winner moving on to Wednesday’s regional championship against either top-seed Marathon or #9 Colfax.
Elmwood-Plum City
Elk Mound showed plenty of firepower in it regular-season finale at home Monday, May 22 against Elmwood-Plum City.
The Mounders smashed 18 hits including four doubles and finished with 15 RBIs in a 22-0, five-inning shut out over the Wolves.
Ryan Bartig, Carter Garnett and Kamron Diermeier each collected three hits with one of Bartig’s smashes going for a double. Lucas Johnson and Peyton Vieth each doubled and finished with two hits and Jake Osborne finished with a double for his only hit.
Garnett, Diermeier, and Johnson along with Kaden Russo, Brady Amble and Jerome Delikowski each tallied a pair of runs batted in. In addition, Diermeier and Bartig each finished with a pair of stolen bases.
Diermeier started on the mound and pitch the first three innings to earn the win after allowing just a single hit without a run with six strikeouts and just one walk. Lucas Johnson relieved Diermeier in the fourth inning and threw two frames of hitless and scoreless ball with four Ks.
Stanley-Boyd
Elk Mound’s offense scored early and often while Lucas Johnson and Victor Noller combined for a no-hitter when it hosted Stanley-Boyd in the opening round of the WIAA Division 3 regional baseball tournament Thursday, May 25.
The Mounders scored four runs in the bottom half of the first inning and added another half dozen in the second to lead 10-0 heading into the third inning.
The Orioles scored their only run in the top half of the fourth on a couple of Mounders’ errors.
The host picked up its final two scores in the bottom of the fourth as it cruised to a 12-1 win in five innings.
Kamron Diermeier and Jerome Delikowski went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Mounders. Delikowski finished with five RBIs while Lucas Johnson, Kaden Russo and Ryan Bartig each had two runs batted in.
Johnson started on the mound and went four inning to earn the victory. He gave up one run to the Orioles without the aid of a hit and struck out five. Noller pitched the final inning, registering a pair of strikeouts. Neither Mounder pitcher allowed a walk.
