With sunny skies and temperatures soaring into the 80s, the Elk Mound track and field teams were finally able to get in a pair of 5-school, outdoor meets last week including their first home meet in nearly a decade and a half.
The Mounder thinclads traveled to Durand on Tuesday, April 11 and returned home two days later (Thursday, April 13) to host their first meet at their newly renovated track and field facilities.

The Mounders boys easily won the Durand Invite April 11 as they tallied 135 points compared to distant runner-up Elmwood-Plum City who posted 77 points. The Elk Mound girls finished with 66 points to take third behind winner and host Durand (94) and Elmwood-Plum City (82).
Elk Mound dominated many of the boys’ races.
In the 100 meters, Keinin Miller finished first with a time of :11.22, Carson Streifel took third (:11.53) and AJ Miller was 6th (:11.90). Keinin Miller (:22.81), Streifel (:23.92), AJ Miller (:24.76) and Lucas Hanson (24.83) finished first, second, third and fourth, respectively, in the 200 meter dash.
Hanson was the silver medalist in the 400 meter dash with a time of :55.53 and was followed by teammates AJ Miller who took third and Tyler Gagner who placed fourth.
Aiden Schiferl won the 1,600 meters with a run of 5:07.27 with Jesse Moyer taking third at 5:48.50. Schiferl also won the 3,200 meters in 10:57.34 while Moyer came in second with a 12:26.31.
In the two hurdle events, the Mounder boys had three top place finishers in each event. Grandt Mueller won the 110 meter highs in :11.50, Tobey Westcott took second in :13.89 and Brooks Burcaw placed third with a time of :14.17. Burcaw finished second in the 300 meter intermediates with a :47.16 while Westcott (:49.84) came in third and Jackson Gehweiler (:51.68) was fourth.
Mueller also took a silver in the long jump with a best leap of 19’ 4”. Landon Kasakaitas finished second in the discus (106’ 5”) and placed third in the shot put (37’ 3”).
The boys also won the 4×200 m relay and came in second in the 4×100.
Like their male counterparts, the Elk Mound girls dominated the sprints.
Lydia Levra led the way with a first in the 200 meters (:27.50), a second in the 400 meters (1:04.36) and a third in the 100 meters (:13.39).

Aleya Hadenfeldt nipped Levra in the 100 meters taking second place in :13.38. Hadenfeldt also placed fourth in both the 200 and 400 meters.
Allie Robel was fourth in the 100, fifth in the 200 and came in sixth in the 400 meter. Taylor Frinack took third in the 400 meters while finishing fifth and sixth in the 100 and 200 meter dashes, respectively.
Marley King scored points in a pair of mid-distance runs with a second in the 1,600 meters (6:39.78) and third in the 800 meters (3:00.59).
In the hurdles, sisters Kate and Carly Mohr each scored points. Kate won the 100 meter highs in :18.11 with Carly taking second in :18.24. Meanwjile, Carly came in third in the 300 meter lows with Kate taking fourth.
A fourth-place finish also went to Addison Young in the pole vault.
Elk Mound Invite
Showing off its new all-weather track and newly created field event areas, Elk Mound hosted its first track and field meet in at least 13 years.
Blue skies and summer-like weather greeted competitors as the Mounders along with Prescott, Mondovi, Colfax and Boyceville christened the renovated facilities.
The Mounder boys’ squad finished as the runner-up by meet’s end with a tally of 72. Prescott won the 5-team meet with a 83.33. Mondovi was third with a 66.67, Colfax was fourth with a 25 and Boyceville had a 16 to take fifth. On the girls’ side, Prescott and Mondovi went first and second, respectively, with 96 and 63 points, Elk Mound had 45.5 for third, Colfax scored 30 and Boyceville had a 27.5 for fourth and fifth places, respectively.
Grabbing first-place finishes for the Elk Mound boys were Keinin Miller in the 100 meters (:11.66), Aiden Schiferl in the 1,600 meters (4:56.96) and Grandt Mueller in the high jump (6’ 2”). Keinin Miller also took fifth in the long jump and Mueller finished second in the 110 meter high hurdles.
Seconds went to Landon Kasakaitas in both the shot put (39’ 4”) and the discus (119’ 7”) as well as the boys 4×200, 4×400 and 4×800 meter relay teams.
Carson Streifel scored a third place in the 100 meters as did Tyler Gagner in the 200 m, Lucas Hanson in the 400 m and Tobey Westcott in the pole vault.
Fourths went to AJ Miller in the 400 m, Teegan Wright in the 800 m, Bodie Folczyk in the 1,600 m, Jesse Moyer in the 3,200 m and Brook Burcaw in the 300 m intermediate hurdles.
Alex Woodruff scored a fifth in the 100 m as did Moyer in the 1,600 m.
Lydia Levra and Carly Mohr finished with the Mounder girls only firsts. Levra won the 200 m in :28.2 and placed second in the long jump (14’ 3”) and Carly Mohr took top honors in the 300 meter low hurdles in :53.75 along with a third in the 100 meter highs and a fifth in the long jump.
Kate Mohr earned second-place finishes in both the 100 m high (:18.16) and 300 m low hurdles (:55.19) as well as the high jump (4’ 6”).
Aleya Hadenfeldt also earned a silver-medal finish in the 100 meters (:13.92) as did the 4×400 m relay squad.
Fifth went to Allie Robel in the 100 and 200 meter dashes and Marley King in the 800 and 1,600 m runs.
