Playing in a pair of Dunn-St. Croix matches to close out the 2022 regular season, the Elk Mound volleyball team earned a split last week.
Hosting conference unbeaten Elmwood-Plum City last Tuesday, October 11, the Mounders lost in four sets to the Wolves. The Wolves went on to defeat Spring Valley a couple days later to claim this year’s Dunn-St. Croix volleyball championship. Elk Mound then traveled to Glenwood City on Thursday, October 13 where it wrapped up the conference and regular season with a three-set sweep of the Hilltoppers to finish third in the conference with a 5-2 record.
The Mounders (10-24) received an 11 seed in the WIAA Division 3 tournament and traveled to Onalaska Luther (#6) Tuesday night to open regional play. A win would put them up against the winner of the Cashton (#3) and Durand-Arkansaw (#14) match this Thursday evening.

Elmwood/Plum City
Going against its second conference foe to sport an unblemished record in less than a week, Elk Mound played visiting Elmwood/Plum City in the pair’s October 11 match.
Despite dropping the first two sets, 25-27 and 19-25, the Mounders rebounded to win the third set 25-20. But, Elk Mound ran out of gas in the fourth and deciding set as Elmwood/Plum City went on to claim the match with a 25-14 win.
The victory kept the Wolves perfect in Dunn-St. Croix play and set the stage for a showdown against rival and fellow conference unbeaten Spring Valley two days later. The Wolves took down the host Cardinals in four sets to claim this year’s crown.
In the E/PC match, Gracie Carlton had a dozen of the Mounders 25 kills with Stella Rhude and Lauren Garnett adding seven each. Garnett also had a trio of ace serves. Tori Blaskowski tallied 27 of the team’s 35 assists while Brooke Emery and Lydia Levra topped the charts with 14 digs each while Garnett added 11.
Glenwood City
Elk Mound rebounded from the loss to Elmwood/Plum City when it swept the Hilltoppers in Glenwood City two days later.
Glenwood City played Elk Mound close in their two sets which the Mounders won 25-16 and 25-23.
But, the Mounders bolted to an early 9-0 lead in the third game. Elk Mound extended that lead to 19-4 before eventually pulling out an impressive 25-13 win to earn the victory in three sets.
Carlton finished with three of the team’s five ace serves and 13 digs. Emery had the other two aces and seven digs. Rhude and Allie Roder added seven and five kills, respectively, and Garnett added three kills and six assists. Blaskowski was the assists leader with 27 and finished with seven digs.
