MENOMONIE — 2017 Boyceville High School graduate James Palmer has taken his athletic talents to UW-Stout and the mound.
A standout wrestler who won a state championship his senior year at Boyceville High School, Palmer is a pitcher on this year’s UW-Stout Blue Devils’ baseball team.
Palmer helped Stout open the 2020 season with a pair of wins in Carbondale, IL on February 22.
After a season opening victory over Wilmington College, a 5-0 shut out, Palmer started the second game against Blackburn College.
Palmer, who is a junior majoring in Environmental Sciences, threw the first five innings to record the victory, his first of the season. The left hander scattered five hits and struck out four and allowed just a single run.
Blackburn College touched Palmer for that lone run in the bottom of the first inning but held Blackburn scoreless over his final four innings of work. During the period, Stout responded with a run in the second and fourth and then racked up four more runs in the fifth to give Palmer a 6-1 lead.
After Palmer exited the contest following the fifth inning, Blackburn scored three more runs but Stout tacked on five more scores to win the game, 11-4.
The Blue Devils are currently 2-1 with several games slated for March 16-20 in Clemont, FL.
