Elk Mound qualifies 24 powerlifters for state; Colfax has two qualifers

OSCEOLA — It was the second meet of the season for the Elk Mound and Colfax powerlifters and with it came success and berths to state high school championship which will be held in Appleton on March 7 and 8.
Elk Mound saw 24 of its lifters qualify for state, while Colfax qualified two of their lady lifters in their second match of the season.
Colfax will travel to Elk Mound on Saturday, February 8, for the final meet of the season and the last opportunity to advance to Appleton.
Elk Mound
The Mounders had 52 lifters compete on Saturday, January 11, with 24 of them qualifying for state in Appleton.
Laylue Kue qualified with a 150-pound squat, 80-pound bench press, and a 240-pound dead lift. Kue earned 470 points for Elk Mound in the 105-pound weight class to finish first.
Several Elk Mound ladies competed in the 114-pound weight class with Emma Gillespie taking first for the Mounders. Gillespie tallied 555 points with a squat of 185 pounds, a 90-pound bench press and cleanly lifting 280 pounds in the dead lift. Clare Hallum finished in second with a 170-pound squat, 85-pound bench press, and a 230-pound dead lift for 485 points. Nanya Kue scored 460 points and third place in that weight class with a 150-pound squat, a 85-pound bench press and a dead lift of 225 pounds. Peyton Meyers and Kaxandra Pha also competed at 114 pounds with Meyers doing 135 pounds in the squat, 75 in the bench press and 235 for a dead lift and Pha finished with 155 in the squat, 70 in the bench press and 200 in the dead lift.
Gillespie, Clare Hallum, Kue and Meyers all qualified for state
Morgyn Hallum scored first and a qualifying spot in the 123-pound weight division with a 235-pound squat, 100-pound bench press, and a 260-pound dead lift. Mercedes Hay placed third in that same weight class to qualify with weights of 170, 95 and 220.
Ashley Patterson and Bailey Gilbertson of Elk Mound both qualified at 132 pounds. Patterson had a 190 squat, a 85 bench press and did 265 pounds in the dead lift. Gilbertson also dead lifted 265 pounds and 190 for the squat and finished with 80 pounds in the bench press.
Danielle Wagner and Isabella Harmer each qualified in the 148-pound weight class. Wagner had best of 240 in squat, 110 in bench press and 260 in the dead lift. Harmer finished with 290 pounds in the dead lift, 110 in the bench press and 190 for the squat.
Three other state qualifiers for the Lady Mounders included Alyse Egan at 165 pounds (225-squat, 115-bench press, 290-dead lift); and Oriann Horel (270-squat, 110-bench press, 300-dead lift) and Teagan Pahl (225-squat, 110-bench press, 285-dead lift) at 181 pounds.
Devin Balts, Evan Weiss, Lane Lee, Calvin Brueggen, Charles Norgan, Blake Burling game, Dominic Hall, Avery Kaanta, and Major Gunderson-Morris all qualified for the Elk Mound boys.
Balts topped the 114-pound weight class with a squat of 210 pounds, a 130-pound bench press and a 270-pound dead lift.
Evan Weiss did 205 pounds in the squat, 130 in the bench press and a 245-pound dead lift at 123 pounds.
Lane Lee and Calvin Brueggen both competed at 132 pounds. Lee had a 240-squat, a 155 bench press and a 330 dead lift while Brueggen did 210 in the squat, 140 in the bench press and 320 for a dead lift.
Morgan, Burlingame and Hall took part in the competition at 148 pounds. Morgan had a 315-pound squat, a 185-pound bench press and dead lifted 420 pounds. Burlingame squatted 285 pounds, bench pressed 180 pounds and dead lifted 385 pounds. Hall had a 280-lb squat, 190-lb bench press, and 375-lb dead lift in the 148-lb weight class which landed him in seventh place.
As for Kaanta in the 165-pound weight class, he had a 335- pound squat, 205- pound bench, and 405- pound dead lift and Gunderson-Morris finished in first place in the 180- pound weight class with a 405- pound squat, 215- pound bench, and 520-pound dead lift.
The Mounders also had several other varsity and junior varsity competitors
Colfax
Out of the four varsity competitors for Colfax, two of them qualified for state in their respective weight classes.
Alexis Snyder finished fifth in the 165-lb weight class with a 205-pound squat, 100-pound bench press, and a 290-pound dead lift.
Also qualifying for state was Sydney Herrick in the 242+-pound weight class with a 230-lb squat, 115- pound bench, and a 280-pound dead lift.
Austin Schindler competed in the 220-pound weight class and missed qualifying by four spots, Schindler wrapped up the day with a 380- pound squat, 195-pound bench press, and a 375-pound dead lift.
Junior Chase Aspengren competed in the 275+-pound weight class and finished with a 240-pound bench press, and a 385-pound dead lift. Aspengren was unable to clear a lift for his squat, and scored no points for Colfax.
Asher Pecka, David Paulson, Caleb Arntson, and Mark Solberg all took part in the junior varsity competitions for the Vikings.
