The Lady Mounders have put together a great season thus far as they took wins over Altoona, Spring Valley, and Elmwood/Plum City this past week with senior Taya Schaefer scoring 31 points against E/PC.
In the first win of the week, Elk Mound took a 61-42 win over the ladies of Altoona on Monday evening, January 27, with freshman Tori Blaskowski leading the charge with 17 points.
Elk Mound continued their winning ways the following evening, Tuesday, with a win on the road against the Spring Valley Cardinals 67-31.
It was a high scoring game on Friday evening for the Mounders as they put up 81 points over Elmwood/Plum City, 31 of which were scored by Taya Schaefer. Schaefer hit big from beyond the arc as she put up four triples for Elk Mound.
The Mounder ladies were on the road yesterday in Somerset and will return home for games against Glenwood City this Thursday, February 6, and Amery on Friday, February 7. Elk Mound will travel to Mondovi to take on the Buffaloes in their second meeting of the season on Tuesday, February 11.
Altoona
The Elk Mound ladies got off to a good start this last week as they took a home win over the Altoona Railroaders on Monday evening, January 27, by a score of 61-42.
“I was really proud of our effort,” said head coach Jordan Kongshaug. “It was a great team win.”
Freshmen Tori Blaskowski was able to garner 17 points against Altoona which included five doubles, a pair of threes and she was one-for-one at the free throw line.
Blaskowski’s older sister, Hailey, wasn’t far behind as she finished with 15 points overall stemming from a double, two triples, and she was seven-for-eight at the line.
“We really got after it on the defensive end in the second half, and we moved the basketball effectively,” Kongshaug explained.
Center Taya Schaefer has been the strength of the Mounder ladies in the paint and was able to do so once again on Monday evening as she went up for five doubles and was three-for-three from the line.
Also scoring for Elk Mound were Stella Rhude with eight points, Brooke Emery with six points, and Olivia Schreiber was two-for-two at the foul line.

Spring Valley
The Mounder ladies continued their winning ways with a conference win in Spring Valley last Tuesday evening, January 28, as they beat the Cardinals 67-31.
“I was really impressed with our defensive effort playing back to back nights,” said coach Kongshaug. “I am excited for the progress our team continues to make.”
Seniors Hailey Blaskowski and Taya Schaefer led Elk Mound on the court with 13 points a piece. Blaskowski had a pair of threes and was seven-for-ten from the free throw line, and Schaefer had four doubles, a lone trey, and was two-for-two at the line.
Tori Blaskowski has been a strong starter for the Mounders in her freshman year. She was able to garner 11 points against the Cardinals off of a double, triple, and she was six-for-eight at the line.
Scoring 15 points between them were Isabella Hollister and Stella Rhude. Hollister had three doubles and a triple, and Rhude was six-for-nine at the line.
At the free throw line Elk Mound shot at 67 percent as they went 22-for-33.
Also scoring for the Mounders were Lydia Rubenzer and Brooke Emery with three points, Kallee Rhude with five points, and Olivia Schreiber with four points.

Elmwood/Plum City
To say the least, the Elk Mound ladies were no slouches as they outscored the Wolves 81-45 on Elmwood/Plum City’s home court.
“We played really well offensively,” said coach Kongshaug. “We moved the basketball well, and hit open shots.”
The highlight of the game was senior Taya Schaefer as she hit her career high of 31 points against the Wolves, Schaefer had seven doubles, four triples, and she was five-for-seven from the free throw line. Schaefer’s previous career high came against Boyceville recently when she scored 14 points on Friday, January 24.
Olivia Schreiber was able to shine as well against the Wolves as she hit also had a career high of 16 points, she had seven doubles, and was two-for-four from the line.
Freshmen Brooke Emery and Tori Blaskowski put up 17 points between the pair. Emery had a pair of threes and a double, and Blaskowski had four doubles and was one-for-two from the line.
Small forward Stella Rhude was strong off the bench as she had three doubles and was two-for-three from the charity stripe for a total of eight points.
Also scoring for the Mounders was Hailey Blaskowski with two doubles and was two-for-two at the line, Lydia Rubenzer with a double, and Isabella Hollister was one-for-four from the line.
