ELK MOUND — The Elk Mound volleyball team split a pair of 4-set conference home matches last week to close out its regular season.
Hosting Mondovi Tuesday, October 15, Elk Mound won the match three sets to one. Two days later, conference leader Durand-Arkansaw came to the Mound and left with a 3-1 win and the outright 2024 Dunn-St. Croix volleyball championship after its finished with an unblemished 7-0 record in league play.
Elk Mound finished in a three-way tie for third place with Spring Valley and Mondovi after each team posted 4-3 conference records.
The Mounders enter this week’s WIAA tournament with an overall mark of 18-15. Elk Mound received the number seven seed and hosted Prescott (#10) in a Division 3 regional quarterfinal match last night (Tuesday, October 22). The winner will advance to play Thursday, October 24 at #2 Marathon. The regional championship will be played on Saturday.
Mondovi
Elk Mound defeated Mondovi three sets to one when the Buffaloes played on the Mounders’ home court Tuesday, October 15.
Neither set scores nor statistics for the match were reported.
Durand-Arkansaw
The Panthers of Durand-Arkansaw ran the D-SC table when they defeated the host Mounders in four close sets in the Thursday, October 17 conference and season finale.
Elk Mound won the first set 25-21, but Durand-Arkansaw took the next three and the match by scores of 25-23, 25-20 and 25-23 to finish unbeaten in its conference matches.
