DURAND — The Elk Mound Cross Country teams competed at the Durand-Arkansaw Invite on September 26. The varsity boys’ team took fifth place out of 11 teams and the girls placed seventh out of nine teams.
Sophomore Hudson Banaszak was the first Mounder to cross the finish line. He placed 23rd out of 98 runners with a time of 20:17.44. Zayne Richardson of Durand placed first in the race with a time of 17:23.52. Lake City High School won the meet with a score of 47.
Brody Niven, a junior on the Elk Mound team, was the second runner. He came in 28th with a time of 20:36.67 and scored 25 points. Sophomore Blake Niska came in third for the team placing 30th with a time of 20:44.32.
Junior Dayton Jamison and freshman Jack Stroh also scored points. They came in 41st and 47th and ran the race in 21:11.69 and 21:36.64.
In the girls competition, senior Ellie Schiszik was the first Mounder to cross the finish line. Her time was 21:51.91 which earned her fourth place out of 85 runners. Taylor Sylla of Independence-Gilmanton took first in the race with a time of 19:50.51 her team also took first with a score of 75.
Senior Jaidynn Sarauer was the second runner for the Elk Mound girls. She placed ninth with a time of 22:34.01. Junior Elli Beskow was the third runner, placing 40th with a time of 26:16.61.
Kylee Anderson and Yolo Delgado, both seniors, also scored points. Coming in 45th and 58th with times of 26:38.39 and 28:23.56.
Middle School
In the middle school races the Elk Mound boys took first with a score of 30 out of eight teams and the girls placed seventh out of 10 teams with a score of 179.
On the boys’ team Grady Westland, Jaxson Glaus and Zach Knudson placed second, third and fourth all running the 3K race in about 12 minutes. Brian Hase and Wyatt Hase also scored points coming in 13th and 14th with times of 12:32.22 and 12:32.60.
There were 92 runners in the boys middle school race. Brennor Levers of Ellsworth took first with a time of 11:23.08.
In the middle school girls’ competition Haddie Dummer was the first teammate to cross the finish line. She placed 24th out of 114 runners with a time of 14:58.09. Elise Carstens placed 27th and was the team’s second runner.
Natalie Schram, Braelyn Mayer and Ryleigh Nelson also scored points for the team coming in 41st, 43rd and 45th.
Elk Mound will compete in Spring Valley this Thursday.
