Topper gals first, boys second at home quad; Lady Bulldogs finish third while boys take fourth

GLENWOOD CITY — After getting rained out the previous week, the Glenwood City Hilltoppers hosted a quad conference track meet on Thursday, June 3rd.
Besides the Toppers, those competing were the Boyceville Bulldogs, the Colfax Vikings, and the Elk Mound Mounders.
Previously these four teams competed against each other on May 13th in Boyceville and the results were the same this past Thursday as they were in May.
The Elk Mound boys won with a score of 112 with the Hilltoppers second with 78 points, followed by Colfax with 55 points, and Boyceville with 17. For the girls, it was the Lady Toppers in first with 102 points followed by the Mounders with 62 points, the Lady Dawgs with 36, and the Vikings pulling up the rear with 30 points.
All four teams along with Mondovi, Spring Valley, Elmwood/Plum City, and Durand competed in the eight-team conference tournament held at Colfax yesterday (Tuesday, June 8).
Glenwood City and Boyceville will return to the Lee Bjurquist Athletic Complex in Colfax next Monday, June 14 for the WIAA Division 3 regional competition where the top four finishers in each event will move on to the sectional met to be held Thursday, June 17 in Cameron. The D3 state meet will be held June 24 in LaCrosse.
Hilltoppers

The Lady Hilltoppers once again dominated the meet with eleven first-place finishes, including a sweep of the relays.
In the individual running events, it was the seniors leading the way. Marie Garcia once again came in first in the 100m dash with a time of :13.25. Bella Rassbach took the 400m in 1:04.61 and Lexi Wannemacher easily won the 300m hurdles with a time of :49.09.
Senior Yasmin Mendez continues to rule the throwing events winning both the shot put and discus competitions with personal records. She threw the shot 35 feet 6.25 inches and the discus 103 feet seven inches. Brenna Schwartz took the pole vault with a height of seven feet. Freshman Ryeah Oehlke, who dual sports along with softball, set a personal record in the long jump with a distance of 16 feet nine inches to take first place.
For the boys, it was seven first-place finishes, taking all of the field events except for a second-place finish in the shot put. Sophomore Brady Klatt took first in both the discus and the long jump. He threw the discus 118 feet one inch and jumped 18 feet 8.75 inches. Freshman Malachi Keller leapt six feet to set a personal record in the high jump for first place. Sophomore Nick Hierlmeier vaulted into first with a height of nine feet while senior Will Eggert covered 40 feet and one half inch in the triple jump.
On the track, junior Austin Nelson set a personal record in the 400m to win in a time of :52.76 seconds. The boys 4x200m relay consisting of Keller, Wyatt Thompson, Drew Olson, and Eggert took first in a time of 1:38.35.
Bulldogs

The Lady Bulldogs had three first-place finishes.
Junior Shiloh Wheeldon had a winning time of :20.53 in the 100m hurdles while sophomore Haylee Rasmussen took first in both the high jump and the triple jump. In the high jump, Rasmussen jumped four feet six inches and the triple jump she set a personal best with a jump of 31 feet two inches.
Sophomores Makayla Schewe and Abbigail Schlough had second-place finishes in the pole vault and triple jump, respectively. They both set personal records in these events.
While none of the Bulldog boys came away with a first-place finish, freshman Peter Wheeldon came in second in the 400m race setting a personal record and second in the 300m hurdles.
