SPRING VALLEY — Everyone knows a crushing blow can sometimes be cured – or at least softened – by a big confidence booster.
So, the Mounders were pleased to add a W to their win-loss column last Thursday at Spring Valley a little less than a week after falling to the Colfax girls at home.
[emember_protected] Elk Mound walked away from the February 1 Dunn-St. Croix contest with a decisive 78-33 win over the Lady Cardinals.
Head coach Jordan Kongshaug hopes to use the win to propel the team into the tournament season, now just two weeks away.
“We shot the ball well,” he said of the game. “We played with great energy. It was good to play a game again and just get some confidence back.”
The Lady Mounders tripled the home team’s score to take a 54-18 lead into the locker room at intermission, but slacked off slightly in the second half, scoring just 24 points more. The Cardinals, in contrast, put up just 15 more points in the matchup.
Senior Allie Weber had one of the best games of her high school career, and was hot from outside the arc. The Mounder guard dropped in seven three-point shots on her way to a total 25 points.
Morgan Radtke also powered through the game to earn 22 points on the night.
Weber and Radtke were joined by Crista Sweeney with 15 points, Hannah Cedarblade with seven, Ashley Gunderson-Morris with three, and Madysen Borofka, Victoria Fasbender, and Taya Schaefer with two each.
Spring Valley’s Camryn Wegener and Lexi Johansen were the only two Cardinals to score in double digits, and tied with 10 points apiece.
The Mounders ended the week with an 8-3 conference record, and 14-4 overall.
They are on the road all this week, having played at Elmwood/Plum City February 6. Elk Mound will head to Glenwood City February 9, and are scheduled for a non-conference matchup at home February 12. The team ends its regular season February 16 at home versus Mondovi.
