Lady Mounders outstrip Raiders on the road

By Cara L. Dempski

ARCADIA — The Elk Mound girls gave coach Jordan Kongshaug a nice Christmas gift, even if it was a few days late.

Kongshaug and his ladies in orange and black took a trip to Arcadia December 28 to take on the Division 3 Raiders in a holiday week showdown, and returned home the proud owners of a 43-33 win over the home squad.

“I am extremely proud of our team,” the Elk Mound coach said the next morning. “Every kid on our team made great contributions last night. Our effort, particularly on the defensive end, was excellent.”

The Mounders held an 11-point lead as they headed to the locker room for a break at halftime, and were outscored 19-18 by the Raiders in the second half to earn the 10-point W and improve their record to 7-2.

Senior Hannah Cedarblade led the Elk Mound attack with 12 points spread over a pair of threes, an inside shot, and going four for four from the line. Hailey Blaskowski and Morgan Radtke both tacked up eight points, Madysen Borofka logged seven, Allie Weber hit a pair of threes for six, and Kayla Bridges rounded out the score with two.

Arcadia’s Linzy Seidelbach matched Cedarblade’s 12 points to tie as game leaders.

The Mounders got back to work at home January 2 against Arcadia, and will look to improve their 2-1 Dunn-St. Croix record with a win over Elmwood/Plum City January 4 at home. Elk Mound hosts Glenwood City’s Lady Hilltoppers January 9.
