Elk Mound girls blow past Bloomer for second road win

BLOOMER — The Elk Mound girls’ basketball team played two tight games with Bloomer last season.

The first game was a January 14 matchup at Elk Mound where the Lady Mounders won 51-48 in overtime. The second was a season-ending 54-49 loss at Osseo-Fairchild in the March 2 sectional semi-final matchup.

If that was the case, Elk Mound took care of business and the Blackhawks in style with a 43-33 road win to move to 2-0 this season.

Head coach Jordan Kongshaug was happy with the result of the game.

“I was proud of our kids’ defensive effort,” he said the following morning. “We played unselfishly, and it was a great early-season win.”

The Mounders took a 22-13 lead into the locker room at halftime, but the Blackhawks kept pace with the visiting Elk Mound girls in the second half, scoring 20 points to the Mounders’ 21 for a final score of 43-33 in favor of EM.

Juniors Morgan Radtke and Ashley Gunderson-Morris led the overall individual tallies for the night with 16 points each. Senior Crista Sweeney tacked up four points with a pair of field goals, Madysen Borofka added three with a single out-side-the-arc shot, and Hannah Cedarblade and Allie Weber each put up two points.

Bloomer’s highest-scoring individual was Elle Kramschuster, who tacked up 13 points for the Blackhawks.

Elk Mound is in the middle of a two-week break, and will host Durand for the Dunn-St. Croix opener December 5 before welcoming the Boyceville Bulldogs to the Mounder gym December 8.
