Mounder boys’ Cross Country wins Cameron Comets Invitational, girls’ second

CAMERON — If Elk Mound cross country coach Jeremiah Fredrickson wanted to see just how well his boys’ cross country team could do, he got his answer last Thursday at Cameron.

The Mounder boys had five runners finish in the top 20 at the September 7 Cameron Comets Invitational to cop the team win at the meet after earning just 42 points.

[emember_protected] The Elk Mound girls took second behind conference foe Glenwood City after putting together 56 points.

Sophomore Cade Hanson led the boys’ race to the finish line, taking first place as an individual with a time of 17:19.00. Andrew Pathos, one of Hanson’s classmates, finished in fifth place overall and was less than one minute behind the race winner with a time of 18:14.45.

Nate Lind finished in 18:53.84 to take 10th, Seth Hazen was just seconds behind with a 19:05.05 to take 12th, and Nate Schreiber completed his race in 19:15.79 for 14th.

Senior Jared Strand was 24th after finishing in 20:06.72, and Bowdrie Noller rounded out Elk Mound’s scored runners with a time of 20:58.83.

Jonas Kohls, Avery Lauer, Keagan McRea, Brennen Zais, Mitchell Ruppelt and Nate Bechel also competed as part of the Mounder boys’ team.

The Elk Mound girls were led off by junior Alana Plaszcz, who placed fifth overall with a 21:24.85 race. Her sister, Brook, earned 10th with a 22:18.40 finish.

Kristin Martinson finished in 23:03.37 for 16th, Victoria Fasbender ran a 23:22.60 race for 19th, and Danielle Olson was 21st after crossing the line in 23:30.13. Paige Romanowski and Taya Schaefer completed the team of scoring runners with times of 23:45.98 and 24:04.16 to earn 27th and 31st respectively.

Audrey Westcott, Claudia Paul, Kayli Solberg, Amanda Sahm, Mattea Linberg, Hannah Carlson and Kayla Patterson also ran as part of the Mounder girls’ team at Cameron.

The Glenwood City girls took home the team trophy after six runners finished in the top 15 individually. Elmwood/Plum City’s Kassye Todd continued a strong senior season by copping the individual race with after running to the line in 20:36.43.

The Mounders raced again September 12 at Rice Lake before going to the Eau Claire City Wells September 14. Elk Mound will open its Dunn-St. Croix season September 19 at Mondovi.
