GLENWOOD CITY — Despite cool temperatures and overcast skies, the April 24 track and field meet at Glenwood City High School turned out to be a good day for an outdoor meet.

Especially for one of the home squads.

The Hilltopper boys’ copped a first place team finish, while the girls were fourth in their own five-team meet a week ago Monday.

Glenwood City’s boys’ 400m and 800m relay teams nabbed wins. Darian Multhauf, Jacob Nelson, Jacob Kopacz and Carson Strong won the 400m race in 46.29, and the 800m race in 1:36.25. Senior Austin Wannemacher earned a first place in boys’ discus with a throw of 101-01.

The girls’ team wracked up more than a few top-three finishes, but senior distance runner Taylor Drinkman took credit for Glenwood City’s only event win when she finished the 3200m race in 13:08.90. She was nearly 12 seconds ahead of freshman Emily Bethell, who took second place in the race with her 13:20.28 effort.

The team traveled to Amery May 2 before taking a week off before heading to Colfax May 9.
