Topper thinclads debut at Northern Badger Indoor Invitational

MENOMONIE — The Glenwood City track and field team is small compared to other schools in the Dunn-St. Croix, but that does not mean the team lacks potential.

Nowhere was this more apparent than the team’s debut at the March 25 indoor invitational hosted by UW-Stout. The boys’ team finished 23rd out of 26 teams, while the girls tied at 25th with Elk Mound.

Ethan Kahler was the highest-scoring runner at the meet for Glenwood City. The junior raced to a third-place finish behind Elk Mound’s Jake Johnson and Cornell’s Colton Hetke with a time of 8.75. He nabbed the team’s only six points of the day.

Chetek-Weyerhaeuser was the top-scoring small school for the boys with 69 points.

The Glenwood City girls’ 1600m relay team earned the Hilltopper ladies’ first and only point of the day when it finished eighth in the race. The team had a score of 4:53.67.

The Byron girls copped the small-school win at UW-Stout with 89 points.

The Bulldogs headed to UW-Stout again on March 28, and are scheduled for their first outdoor meet of the season on April 6 at St. Croix Central.
