Two arrested in gas drive off pursuit

On September 5, 2016 at approximately 2:30 a.m., Wisconsin State Patrol troopers attempted to stop three vehicles from a gas drive off in Eau Claire.

The vehicles pulled into the I-94 Menomonine westbound rest area and continued at speeds up to 110 m.p.h. without stopping.

Troopers pursued a 2016 Buick Enclave that was reportedly stolen. In addition, two Honda Accords that were also suspected in the drive offs fled the scene. The Buick was stopped after running over a tire deflation device near mile marker 19, Baldwin, Wisconsin. A 16 year male juvenile from Minnesota was taken into custody.

One of the Honda autos was also observed in the ensuing traffic backup and an 18 year old male from Minnesota was also taken into custody. The remaining Honda Accord and its driver remains at large.

The names are being withheld at this time pending further investigation.

Charges of Operating a motor vehicle without owner’s consent, felony fleeing, and reckless driving are pending for both subjects.

The male adult is currently lodged in the St. Croix County jail. The juvenile is being held in a secure detention facility.
