ELK MOUND — A dump truck traveling west on Interstate 94 with its dump box raised struck and damaged an overpass bridge shortly before midnight Saturday, August 14 near Elk Mound in Dunn County.
The driver of the truck, Julie Ann Bluesky, 44 of Couderay, WI, was not injured in the incident which occurred shortly before midnight on Saturday night, August 14 near mile marker 54.
The Wisconsin State Patrol along with the Dunn County Sheriff’s and Highway Departments and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation were dispatched to the scene at 11:59 p.m.
According to the State Patrol news release, its communications center at the Eau Claire Post, received a call of a dump truck that had struck the Division Street overpass, on I-94 west bound at MM 54 in Elk Mound. State Patrol Troopers and Dunn County Deputies responded to the scene.
Bluesky was operating a dump truck owned by Lac Courte Oreilles Development Corporation. She was driving the dump truck in the construction zone and forgot the truck box was lifted and struck the overpass causing substantial damage. The dump truck box was completely torn from the truck and debris from the bridge fell onto the west bound lane of I-94.
The right lane of I-94 westbound at MM 54 and the Division Street overpass was closed for some time for clean-up and bridge inspection.
Bluesky was transported by private vehicle to a local hospital to be checked out and suffered no apparent injury.
Bluesky was belted at the time of the accident. Enforcement action may be pending.
