NEW RICHMOND — One person is dead after the car they were driving left a roadway in the Town of Richmond, crashed and then burned late Friday night, April 3.
The victim was later identified by the St. Croix County Medical Examiner’s Office as 54-year-old Faye E. McCarty of New Richmond, WI.
The St. Croix County Sheriff’s office along with the New Richmond Police, Fire and Ambulance departments responded to a one-vehicle accident on County Highway A approximately nine-tenths of a mile south of West Richmond Way in the Town of Richmond at 11:42 p.m. that evening.
The initial investigation by the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office indicated that McCarty, who was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Lumina, had been traveling south on County Highway A when she failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway, entered the west ditch and struck a tree.
The car then caught fire with McCarty still inside. First responders were unable to extricate her due to the extreme heat of the fire according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.
McCarty, the lone occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Croix County Medical Examiner.
McCarty’s body was transported to the the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office in St. Paul, MN where it was positively identified.
This is the sixth traffic fatality in St. Croix County this year.
