Infant, two adults injured in rollover
WOODVILLE — A one-year infant and her parents were injured when their car left the roadway on Interstate 94 just west of Woodville on Sunday evening, December 28 and rolled over several times before coming to rest.
The female infant, whose name was not released, was ejected from the vehicle, a 1994 Toyota 4-door car, when the driver and mother of the child, 24-year-old Davia N. Johnson of Chicago, IL, apparently fell asleep, drifted onto the shoulder, then over-corrected and lost control of the vehicle. The child’s father, 33-year-old Marcele Johnson of Minneapolis, was a passenger in the car.
All three individuals received non-life threatening injuries and were transported by Baldwin Ambulance to the Baldwin Medical Center and then Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN for treatment.
According to a news release from the Wisconsin State Patrol, the incident occurred at 8:36 pm on Sunday December 28, 2014 in the westbound lane of I-94 at mile marker 23 in St. Croix County near Woodville.
The release stated that the State Patrol received several calls from motorists who reported a car had crashed on I-94 westbound near mile marker 23 just west of Woodville in St. Croix County.
A Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper was dispatched to the scene and arrived at about 8:40 pm. The Trooper found that a 1994 Toyota 4-door car in the north ditch that had rolled over several times and was severely damaged.
The two adult occupants of the car were injured but were wereconscious and alert noted the report.
They advised the Trooper that their child passenger was not in the car.
The Trooper then searched the area and found a 1-year-old baby girl on the ground that had been ejected during the rollover crash.
The baby was injured but was alert and conscious.
EMS personnel responded to the scene and transported the occupants to the Baldwin Hospital. They were subsequently transported by ambulance to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN for further evaluation.
The driver, 24-year-old Davia Johnson from Chicago, IL, is the baby’s mother.
Ms. Johnson stated she fell asleep while driving and drifted onto the roadway shoulder and then over-corrected and lost control of her car which entered the right ditch and overturned several times.
The baby is believed to have been secured in a booster seat at the time of the crash. Ms. Johnson consensually submitted to a blood draw as requested by the Trooper under WI Act 163.
All three individuls were seat belted at the time of the accident.
The crash remains under investigation by the WI State Patrol.
