One injured in 3-vehicle crash in Dunn County

MENOMONIE — A Minnesota man sustained injuries when he was involved in a three-vehicle accident on I-94 near Menomonie shortly before 5 p.m. Sunday, July 27.

Jonathon Dieck, 25 of Plymouth, MN, driving a 2000 Buick 4-door, was unable to brake in time for stopped traffic along the westbound lane of Interstate 94 near mile marker 41 in Dunn County. Dieck struck two others vehicles that were stopped.

The Wisconsin State Patrol reported that Dieck was traveling at highway speeds in the left lane when he noticed the stopped traffic but was too late to stop.

Dieck swerved to the right but struck a pair of stopped vehicles stopped in the left lane. Dieck collided with a 2010 Toyota 4-door driven by Ryan J. Murphy, 29 of Eau Claire and a 2011 Mazda 4-door driven by Philip C. Pole of Blaine, MN.

Neither Murphy nor Pole were injured in the crash. Dieck sustained only minor injuries and was treated on the scene and released.

Only the right lane was open immediately after the crash causing traffic to back up. Both lanes were reopened 40 minutes after the accident.

The State Patrol reported that Dieck was cited for failure to maintain control of his vehicle.

The Wisconsin State Patrol was assisted at the crash scene by the Dunn County Sheriff’s Department and the Menomonie Police Department.
