Missing man found dead in Red Cedar River

MENOMONIE — Three days after a Hudson area man was reported missing, his body was discovered in the Red Cedar River in Dunn County.

Joseph Albert Briske, 45 years old, who was originally reported missing on Monday, July 14, was found deceased in the Red Cedar River near Menomonie, WI by searchers from the Menomonie Police Department, Dunn County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin DNR on Thursday afternoon, July 17.

The St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office issued a press release around Noon on Thursday asking for the public’s help in locating Briske.

A few hours later the Menomonie Police Department contacted the St. Croix County authorities to inform them that Briske’s body had been recovered from the Red Cedar River.

According to the initial press release, Briske had left his residence in the early morning hours of Monday, July 14, 2014 without any explanation.

The Wisconsin State Patrol located Briske’s car around 7:00 a.m. that same morning along the eastbound lanes of I-94 in Menomonie.

The search began shortly thereafter and continued until Briske was found dead in the water of the Red Cedar River some three and a half days later.

The Menomonie Police Department, Dunn County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin DNR searched land and water areas in an effort to find Briske.

The St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with the Menomonie Police Department will continue to investigate the disappearance and death of Joseph Briske, the release stated.
