Due to various reasons, the Elk Mound Legion baseball team was only able to play two of its scheduled seven games last week, resulting in a pair of close games ending in losses for them. The Legion lost 4-1 to Altoona to start the week off then followed up with a 2-1 loss to Durand.
Brandon Bohl continues to bowl opposing hitters down as he struck out 13 Altoona players in seven innings while walking four to absorb the loss. Bohl also led the offense, batting 3 for 3 while Cole Tyman was 2 for 4 for the game.
Hitting seems to be the problem for Elk Mound as they collected just two hits in the game with Bohl and Ryan Conlin picking them up. Although the team drew six walks, nobody could follow up with any big slams to bring runners in as Tyman had the only RBI for the team. Grant Kjellberg went the distance on the mound, whiffing four batters and walking just one in six innings.
“We continue to get good pitching and our fielding has been solid with only one error all week,” coach Steve Kjellberg said. “But we are really struggling with our hitting.”
