Semi/bridge accident causes closures

On Friday, June 27 around 10:00 a.m. the Wisconsin Department of Transportation closed 233rd Street over I-94 between Baldwin and Woodville due to structural damaged caused by a semi truck that crashed into a column.

The crash occurred in the early morning hours and it caused both lanes of westbound traffic to be closed on the interstate for roughly five hours.

Early morning commuters in the area were greeted with a closed on ramp at Highway 128 and I-94. The closures routed traffic to Highway 12, which caused quite the traffic jam to the west.

According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, the driver was Vladimir Valchev, 64 of Glen Ellyn, Illinois. Despite the extensive damage caused, Valchev survived the accident with injuries that were not life threatening.

Christine Ouellette, Communications Manager for WisDOT, stated that structural engineers will be on site this week to assess the damage. Currently it is unknown how long the bridge will be closed.
