Elk Mound graduates complete college basketball seasons

Three former basketball players from Elk Mound ended the 2014 season for their respective teams recently.

Emily Harrison, a junior at Division 2 Michigan Tech University, played in 24 of the 28 games for the Huskies this year. The team finished with a 19-9 record and were 16-6 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. They ended their season with a 59-54 loss in the semi final game of the conference tournament to Northern Michigan but did not receive an at-large bid for the Midwest Regional tournament.

Harrison started in eight games and averaged eight minutes a game during the season, scoring 68 points by shooting 35% from the field on 30 of 85 field goals and knocking down 8 of 15 free throws. She collected 35 rebounds, eight assists, 14 blocks and three steals and had a high game of 10 points in a win over Saginaw Valley State Feb. 15.

Josie Hayes and Kaysi Meindel completed their first season with the Division 3 UW-River Falls team. Hayes saw action in 20 games for the Wildcats as the team struggled with a record of 6-19 overall and 4-12 in the WIAC. She scored 52 points for the season which included five triples and had seven points in both contests against UW-Oshkosh. She snared 31 rebounds with one block and one assist.

Meindel played in 11 games and scored 13 points with one three pointer and 2 of 3 free throws, grabbed six rebounds, and added three steals and a pair of assists.
