St. Croix Electric Cooperative (SCEC) staff are preparing for Winter Storm Seneca, which is forecasted to bring 8″ to 12″+ of snow to St. Croix County, followed by high winds. Temperatures throughout the next 24 hours will greatly impact the type of precipitation that falls (e.g., rain, ice, snow, heavy snow [wet]). Crews will continue work as usual, but are on-call 24 hours a day.
ALL outages should be reported by calling 800-924-3407; members who have signed up for Outage Texting can text “outage <keyword>” to 55050.
Should a major outage occur, SCEC updates will be posted online at www.scecnet.net, as well as on our Facebook (St. Croix County Energizer – https://www.facebook.com/pages/StCroix-County-Energizer-by-St-Croix-Electric-Co-op/118129281583521) and Twitter (www.twitter.com/stcroixeleccoop) sites. Crews prioritize power restoration to areas where restoration will help the most members or members with medical emergencies, first. In the event of a medical emergency, members should call 911. Even if a neighbor has reported an outage, the Co-op encourages all members experiencing loss of power to call the 800 number in order to be placed in the restoration queue.
Tips during an outage:
- Always assume any downed power lines or objects touching the lines (e.g., trees, vehicles, water) are ENERGIZED. Do not go near downed lines; report them immediately.
- Do not use a generator unless it has been properly installed by a licensed electrician and has a double-throw transfer switch. Improper installation can create an extremely dangerous situation for anyone working to restore power.
- Have emergency kits in your home and vehicle. Ready.gov offers suggestions at http://www.ready.gov/kit-storage-locations.
