One killed in train-truck collision

HAMMOND — One person is dead following a collision between a train and a truck Monday morning, February 3 in St. Croix County township of Hammond.

The St. Croix County Emergency Communications Center received a call shortly before 11 a.m. Monday from Union Pacific Railroad that one of their trains had been involved in an accident with a truck.

A press release from the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office stated that the incident happened at the railroad crossing on 150th Street, just north of County Highway TT, in Hammond Township. According to the report, the westbound Union Pacific train had struck a septic truck heading southbound on 150th Street. The driver of the septic truck was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Croix County Medical Examiner. The identity of the driver was being withheld by authorities until family members could be notified.

No injuries to occupants of the train were reported.

The crossing, which is marked by yield and railroad crossing signs the release stated, remained closed for several hours while authorities investigated the accident.
