Hudson man is St. Croix’ first fatality of new year

NEW RICHMOND — Tragedy stuck on the first day of the new year as a young Hudson man became St. Croix County’s first traffic fatality of 2014.

Taylor J. Casey, 19, of Hudson died when the 2002 Mecedes Benz SUV he was driving left the roadway around 5:18 am on Wednesday, January 1 in the 1600 block of County Highway A in the Town of Richmond and rolled. Casey was partially ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene by the the St. Croix County Medical Examiner said a report from the St. Croix County Sherriff’s Office.

A passenger in the Casey vehicle, Antonio L. Bloomquist, also age 19 of Hudson, was not injured in the crash. The report stated that Bloomquist had been wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident but that Casey was not.

According to the news release from the Sheriff’s Office, Casey was southbound on County Highway A when he lost control of the vehicle entered the ease ditch which cause the SUV to roll over.

New Richmond Police, Fire and EMS departments assisted at the crash scene. The incident was investigated by the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office.
