ELK MOUND — Two people were injured early Friday morning when a Toyota delivery van rear-ended a Cadillac Escalade parked on the shoulder of Interstate-94 near Elk Mound.

According to a news release from the Wisconsin State Patrol, the accident occurred at 6:10 a.m. December 13 at mile marker 53 in Dunn County.

The driver of the Escalade, 30-year-old Michael C. Ludvik of Weyerhaeuser was critically injured in the accident and was transported by Mayo 1 helicopter to Luther Hospital in Eau Claire.

The Toyota van rolled onto its side and trapped the driver inside — 61-year-old John Roby of Nesbit, Mississippi.

Emergency extraction was required to remove Roby from the delivery van.

Roby was transported by the Colfax Rescue Squad to Luther Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The impact of the van pushed the Escalade into the north ditch of I-94.

Roby, the driver of the van, was wearing a seatbelt.

Ludvik and Roby each were lone occupants in their vehicles.

In addition to the Colfax Rescue Squad and the Mayo 1 helicopter, the Elk Mound Fire Department, the Dunn County Sheriff’s Department and the Dunn County Highway Department responded to the scene of the accident.

The Wisconsin State Patrol is investigating the accident to determine possible contributing circumstances.
