St. Croix County crash kills one

HUDSON – A two-vehicle crash that occurred in the Town of Troy on Saturday afternoon, October 19 claimed one life and injured four others.

Scott W. Shoemaker, 38, of Black River Falls, WI was killed when he failed to stop his car at the stop sign on Tower Road, entered the intersection and was struck on the driver’s side by a minivan driven by Jason Edwards, 42, of Hudson, shortly after 4:00 p.m. On Saturday, October 19.

Shoemaker’s three minor children, two females ages 16 and 12 and one male age 14 all of Black River Falls, were passengers in his vehicle at the time of the crash. All three were taken via ground ambulances to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN, the two females suffering from life threatening injuries.

Edwards was transported by ambulance to the Hudson Hospital with non-life threatening injuries where he was treated and released.

All four victims were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident

The two-vehicle crash occurred at the intersection of Old State Highway 35 and Tower Road in the Township of Troy, St. Croix County at approximately 4:06 p.m. said a Wisconsin State Patrol news release.

According to the State Patrol, Jason Edwards was traveling northbound on Old State Highway 35 in a 2011 Dodge Caravan when he stuck the driver’s side of the Shoemakers’ 1999 Mazda Protege that was traveling west on Tower Road. Scott Shoemaker had failed to stop at a stop sign on Tower Road and traveled into the intersection and path of Edwards’ vehicle.

Scott Shoemaker died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. His three children sustained serious injuries and were taken to St. Paul’s Regions Hospital for care. Edwards was the lone occupant in his van.

The crash remains under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol. Alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
