Zivcic member of WCC championship golf team

2013 Colfax graduate Cody Zivcic intended to take his basketball skills to UW-Barron County this year and was a little side tracked along the way.

A three year golfer during his high school days, Zivcic was recruited during the late summer by UWBC golf coach Andy Baehr to play for the Chargers this fall.

After playing in five tournaments, Zivcic and his teammates culminated the season by winning the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference State Tournament in a field of seven schools at Mascoutin Golf Course near Berlin Oct. 6-7.

Five golfers for each team competed in the tournament with the top four scores counting in the standings. On the first day, Zivcic had a rough go and shot a round of 96, finishing as the fifth team golfer.

“Cody was somewhat frustrated so we had a little talk and straightened some things out,” Baehr said. “We were down by one stroke after that first round and he came back on the second day to shoot an 85, making him our fourth golfer and we ended up winning by 17 strokes over UW-Marathon.”

Zivcic will take a short break then will begin his basketball season for the Chargers.
