Amery couple receives serious injuries in truck-camper trailer rollover
WOODVILLE – An Amery couple remained in serious condition at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN this past weekend after the pickup truck they were riding in rolled over while pulling a camper trailer along Interstate 94 near Woodville Friday morning, August 2.
Morris E. Nicholson, 68, and his wife Lee Ann Nicholson, 64, both of Amery received significant injuries when their 2001 Dodge pickup truck that was pulling the camper trailer entered the median and rolled over at Mile Post 24 near Woodville in St. Croix County around 10:42 a.m. on August 2.
A news release from the Wisconsin State Patrol stated that the Nicholsons were traveling eastbound on I-94 in the left lane when Morris Nicholson, the driver of the pickup, attempted to pass a semi-tractor trailer that was operating in the right lane when the accident occurred. According to the report, Morris Nicholson apparently swerved while trying to pass and then overcorrected which caused the camper trailer to make contact with the semitrailer. The Nicholsons’ pickup then went into the median where it rolled over.
Morris Nicholson was transported to Regions Hospital while Lee Ann Nicholson was initially taken to the Baldwin Hospital, both with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the 2001 Freightliner semi-tractor and trailer, Dennis J. Olson, 57, of Viola, WI was not injured in the incident.
The State Patrol reported that all parties were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash and that alcohol was not a factor.
The St. Croix County Sheriff’s Department, Baldwin and Woodville Police Departments, United Fire, and Baldwin Area EMS assisted the State Patrol at the scene.
