Cyclist dies after collison with deer

EMERALD – A Baldwin man has died from injuries suffered in a motorcycle collision with a deer on Tuesday evening, June 18 in the Town of Emerald.

Robert F. Cripe, 59, of Baldwin, WI was airlifted to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN shortly after the accident but later died as a result of the injuries he suffered in the crash.

Cripe was traveling westbound on County Road G about a tenth of a mile east of 250th Street in Emerald Township when he struck a deer that had crossed into his lane from the south ditch around 7:54 pm that evening.

According to the news release from the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Department, Cripe, the lone occupant, was ejected from the 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle he was driving. It is currently unknown if Cripe was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Glenwood City and Baldwin EMS responded to the scene. Life Link Helicopter was called in to transport Cripe from the accident site to Regions where he was later pronounced dead.

This is St. Croix County’s sixth traffic fatality of 2013.
