DC Board appoints Wente as acting county clerk
By LeAnn R. Ralph
MENOMONIE — The Dunn County Board has officially appointed Vickie Wente as the acting county clerk.
Steve Rasmussen, county board supervisor from Boyceville and chair of the Dunn County Board, appointed Wente June 4 on the day Dunn County Clerk Marilyn Hoyt died, but said that according to state statute, “that appointment was only good until the county board meets.”
The Dunn County Board at the June 19 meeting unanimously appointed Wente as the acting county clerk until a permanent county clerk can be appointed.
Hoyt was re-elected as county clerk in November and took the oath of office for a four-year term in January.
The person who is appointed as permanent county clerk will fill that position for the remainder of Hoyt’s term, until January of 2017.
Dunn County will advertise for the position of county clerk and will take applications, Rasmussen said.
The county board’s committee on administration will interview candidates and will bring a recommendation to the county board, most likely for the September board meeting, he said.
Memorial
Rasmussen also noted that a permanent memorial for Marilyn Hoyt is being planned for display at the Dunn County Government Center.
Hoyt was well-liked and very respected by all who worked with her in Dunn County and throughout the state, he said.
Hoyt’s family will be involved in selecting and designing the memorial, Rasmussen said.
