Burglary suspect in custody in Chippewa County

On March 11, 2013 the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the Town of Howard that was reported burglarized.

In the investigation it was noted that the occupant of the residence had passed away on March 8th and numerous phone calls had been made to the residence in the following days.

Chippewa County Investigators developed a person of interest and linked the subject to numerous other burglaries that had the same common occurrence, repeated phone calls to the deceased person’s residence.

Chippewa County Investigators associated the person of interest to other similar criminal activity in Shawano County, Trempealeau County, Portage County and Dunn County. Those jurisdictions were notified and participated in a search warrant drafted by Chippewa County Sheriff Investigators of a residence in Wisconsin Rapids.

With the initial information of the person of interest identified as Seth R. Furgason age 32 as developed by the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department took Furgason into custody on April 16, 2013.

The preceding search warrant of the residence at 340 11th Street South Wisconsin Rapids WI resulted in the arrest of Casandra M. Miller age 24 and the recovery of items taken in multiple burglaries.

Furgason remains in custody in Chippewa County for body only warrant from Probation and Parole as well as numerous criminal charges related to the activity identified in multiple jurisdictions.

It is expect other criminal activity related to Furgason’s search of obituaries and targeting those locations will encompass more jurisdictions than those initially identified. This is an ongoing investigation.
